An Introduction
The election may be over but as far as DVDs and Blu-rays go-- this week we're really facing Super Tuesday.
Roll-call, please: first up, two of my favorite films of 2008 (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, In Bruges); a few of my choices for the most underrated movies of last year (RocknRolla, Pride and Glory); a Disney classic (Mary Poppins); one of the best all-time action series hitting Blu-ray (The Bourne Trilogy); the final season of one of America's best loved sitcoms (Cheers); two B-movies that contained some of my favorite scene-stealing performances of 2008 (Jason Sudeikis in The Rocker and Samuel L. Jackson in Lakeview Terrace); along with a tremendously compelling documentary (Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired).
Simply put, it's an extremely tough call.
My first instinct would be to go with Vicky Cristina Barcelonaor In Bruges as they were both nearly forgotten in last week's Oscar announcements but instead, I feel I must call attention to another great Oscar robbery of 2007 that still boggles the mind...
